About
Newnham Solar Community Fund is administered by Sparkwell and Shaugh Prior CIC and aims to fund community led initiatives in the parishes of Sparkwell and Shaugh Prior.
The fund receives £11,000 per annum from solar developers AMP GM006 Ltd, who own a 11MW solar array on land at Newnham Estate, to the north of Plympton.
The CIC has a Board of 6 local Directors who make decisions on grant awards using their extensive local knowledge and experience.
From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of Newnham Solar Community Fund
The concept of farming the sun for energy at Newnham goes back several years and was brought to reality by Solarplicity (now AMP GM006 Ltd) when in April 2016 the Solar Panel array went live. The solar panels are capable of producing 11MWh of sustainable electricity, enough to power around 3000 typical homes per year.
